On Wednesday, April 26, 2006, Chief G’psgolox (Dan Paul Sr.) welcomed the return of the pole to B.C. accompanied by Elders, Haisla members and supporters at UBC’s Museum of Anthropology.
The pole left Stockholm on March 23, travelled by sea almost 15,000 km, through the Panama Canal to the port of Tacoma. The pole will be temporarily housed at the Museum of Anthropology. A gala hosted by the Vancouver Foundation will be held May 17, 2006 to celebrate the return of the G’psgolox pole.
The Government of Sweden will officially give back the G’psgolox pole at a ceremony at the World Urban Forum in Vancouver on June 19, 2006
Following the forum, the pole will make its final journey home, returning to Hailsa territory on July 1, 2006, when the community of Kitamaat will celebrate its homecoming.
